To our loyal followers, it’s Anita here, intake co-ordinator of our rescue. Our committee has just had a crisis meeting. Our vet bills are piling up after our busiest month on record. We have decided that we have no choice but to launch an urgent fundraiser.

This is as tough as it’s ever been for our rescue. We hate saying no to dogs and pups that come our way but this is unfortunately the reality we currently find ourselves in. We need your help!

It is just so tough out there. We’ve agonised for days as to what to do. Tonight, at our our crisis meeting we decided that we have to do something urgent as puppies and dogs lives are at stake. Every minute we wait, we feel like we are losing the battle. Tonight, with your help we can get to somewhat of a clean slate again and start accepting dogs into our rescue.

As of today, we have over 330 puppies and dogs in our care. Our most ever! These numbers are staggering and to be honest, the truth is, that all of these precious animals that come into our care need vet treatment. It’s no wonder That we have spent $87,552 on vet bills in May and it’s not over yet.

Whether it’s the precious pup Sirocco needing emergency surgery after coming to us with a broken hip and a terrible eye injury, the result of someone hitting him in with a heavy object. Or Mash who needed BOAS surgery due to his terrible breathing caused by extreme breeding.

And Kobie a beautiful golden retriever pup who came to us with a horribly shattered leg. Sometimes it beggers belief, but we will be there every step of the way for them. These are the cases we deal with on a daily basis. We need to adapt to the situation for every pup and dog that comes our way.

These animals come to us in their darkest hours and time is of the essence. It’s what our team is wired to do. No matter the time, no matter the hour, whether it’s interrupting a birthday celebration or a romantic dinner with your loved one or a prize giving for your child. They answer the call 24/7. All our volunteers and foster carers do our best. We are unpaid of course, doing it for the love of the animals but I can also see the toll it is taking on them. Day after day, the calls keep coming.

They are such amazing people opening their hearts and their homes but after a while it gets ridiculously tough for them. We receive no ongoing government funding so are completely reliant on donations and to be honest our last fundraiser did not hit the mark, leaving us in a perilous position even before we headed into the last few weeks.

I lie awake at night, thinking about the calls that have come in. Which dogs have we allowed in, which dogs have we painfully had to say no to and wish it wasn’t the case. It’s really tough especially when you see the condition of some and know that the team that we have can turn around an animal’s life through their tender loving care.

Sometimes I wake up thinking it was a nightmare, that the current situation and predicament we face isn’t reality but I’m then jolted back to reality by the constant string of SMS and missed phone calls I have received and it isn’t even 7.30am in the morning.

This is rescue, it’s tough, it’s relenting and it consumes your life but I have to say that the current conditions we face is the worst I’ve ever seen it.

Tonight we need to raise at least $40,000 to get back on some sort of level footing with our vet bills. We have no choice.

Just $5 from each and every one of you would get us to our goal. It’s the cost of your next cup of coffee but one that will help us so very much. It will relieve some of the stress and anxiety we are all feeling.
